Olympic Torch Relay Route

The streets along which the Torchbearers will carry the Olympic Flame have been revealed, enabling local people to plan for celebrations, including Community Games.

An online map gives street-by-street details as the Flame travels through more than 1,000 communities announced at the end of last year.

The Torchbearers include those that were successful through the public nomination processes run by LOCOG and the Presenting Partners, Coca Cola, Lloyds TSB and Samsung.

An average of 115 Torchbearers a day will carry the Flame during its 8,000-mile journey around the UK before it arrives at the Olympic Stadium on 27 July at the Olympic Opening Ceremony. The remaining Torchbearers will be confirmed over the coming months. Each Torchbearer has received confirmation of the day and in which community they will be carrying the Flame. LOCOG has worked closely with representatives from each nation and region of the UK to devise the route, and is taking the Flame to within 10 miles of over 95% of the population. Route plans for the final two days in London will be confirmed soon.

David Moorcroft, West Midlands for 2012 Chair said: ‘Today’s announcement is a real opportunity for communities across the West Midlands to start thinking about how they will welcome the Olympic Flame to their villages, towns and cities in 2012 and kick start their own Olympic celebrations, perhaps by organising a Community Games. For many of us seeing the Olympic Torch Relay will be a once in a lifetime experience and we are delighted that 100% of the West Midlands population will be no more than an hour away from the Olympic Flame as it passes through our region.’
