Community Games celebrates its first event in Cheshire and Warrington

The first Community Games for Cheshire and Warrington took place on Wednesday 30th May at Sandiway Community Centre.  The Petty Pool Games commenced with a torch bearing group from Petty Pool College to the field carrying a replica of the Olympic Torch, followed by a parade of teams carrying flags from the countries they were representing.

Footballer Matt Dimbylow, took time out from his training for the Paralympics to open the games, give medals and certificates, and spend the day meeting students and talking to everyone about his sporting career.  Other special VIP guests attending the event were; Mayor of Northwich, George Mainwaring, accompanied by his Consort Gillian Evans, together with Peter Evans (Chief Executive) and Mike Cooksley (Trustee) from Petty Pool College.

Staff and volunteers helped to ensure that the day was a great success with all the students fully enjoying a packed day of sporting and cultural activities.

The Games was organised by students from Petty Pool College who recently took part in the Sport Makers Programme.

Linda Downey of Petty Pool College said, “We really wanted to make sure that we could celebrate the London Olympic and Paralympic Games here at Petty Pool College, and I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the organisation and success of the event”.
