Congratulations Dennis Kennedy – Birmingham Sport and Physical Activity Partnership Shining Light 2014

Nominated by Birmingham Sport and Physical Activity Partnership, Dennis receives the baton from 2013 Shining Light Craig Smith.

Dennis was the first person to volunteer to run a Community Games back in 2012. He inspired others to join him and put on a two-day event supported by the local Leisure Centre and local clubs. Over 5000 people attended during the two days.

Dennis decided that he would repeat the event for this year’s Commonwealth Games and is expecting to increase attendance, as more people now know about the event. He has in fact ensured funding from local charities to ensure the event will go on again in 2016 with a Brazilian theme!

Debbie Deane from Birmingham Sport and Physical Activity Partnership commented, “Dennis is a real motivator and a 'doer', his passion and enthusiasm rubs off on all those around him! I cannot think of a better person to achieve this award.”

Commenting on his involvement with Community Games, Dennis said, “The world we live in is a reflection of who we all are. It is unhelpful to just sit on the sidelines and commentate sometimes it pays to put positive credits in the bank of life and the Community Games are a great vehicle to do just that! They are true community, voluntary, not commercial, healthy, fun and inspiring.”
