Energize Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin

The Community Games programme is very close to Shropshire’s heart. They are inspired by William Penny Brookes’ original Wenlock Olympian Games which started in Shropshire in 1850 and ultimately provided the vision for the modern day Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Energize Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin County Sports Partnership (CSP) is heavily involved in the effort to bring the benefits of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to the local area. The aim is:

To use the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to ensure a lasting legacy in terms of culture, health, sport, business and tourism within Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.

Energize believes that Community Games is an excellent programme, not only because of our special historic connection, but also because Community Games will give communities a chance to work together, celebrate together and strengthen the spirit of Shropshire’s diverse communities.

Each Community Games will be unique and will give local people and their families the chance to experience something new and have fun. Because the Games are an opportunity to take part in or be a part of both sporting and cultural activities, they offer something for everyone.

This is an opportunity to bring the spirit of the Olympics and Paralympics and the Wenlock Olympian Games in to local communities but offers a chance to build community bonds that go beyond 2012.
